Our Story

Pa’no ba yang online work?

These are some of the questions about online work, and requests to provide online jobs that many founding members of FOPSCo would often hear.

The Filipino Online Professionals Service Cooperative (FOPSCo) was formed by a core group of trainers and resource persons of the DigitalJobsPH program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Before joining the DICT program, most of the trainers were already involved in providing online training programs. They share a common mission of training Filipinos in digital technologies to help them get online jobs or build online businesses.

When the trainers were already part of the DICT, Ms. Janette Toral, the DICT’s Technical Advisor pitched the cooperative concept for the Filipino online community.

Initially, Rochefel Rivera (who has a background in organizing a cooperative), Sherlane Fortunado and Ms. Janette Toral discussed how the DICT can support a nationwide cooperative should it be organized successfully. Upon Ms. Janette’s advice that the DICT will be supporting the cooperative, all agreed that it’s about time to finally organize a cooperative for FIlipino online freelancers.

Roche and Sherlane persuaded fellow trainers and friends from the online community to join them in forming a pioneering cooperative that will empower Filipinos, especially those in the countryside, to take advantage of digital technologies to gain employment or build businesses.

And with just a few calls to close friends, FOPSCo was born, with the vision of uniting the whole online community to share in the task of nation-building through job creation.

The road ahead is still a long way to go but the FOPSCo family believes that they will be able to overcome any setback as long as they work together for a common goal because they believe in growing together.
